Journey through Beijing and the magical hutong neighborhood
with a young Chinese girl, Zhang Yue, her cousin, and
her waipo -- Mandarin for "maternal grandmother" --
for a day of adventure and tradition. On their way
to visiting their waipo, the girls see the sights of
Beijing and wander around the shops and markets of
the hutong. When they reach their grandmother's house,
they get a surprise-Waipo is going to teach them how
to make dumplings! Along with a dumpling recipe, To
Grandmother's House is peppered with full-color photography
as well as Mandarin translations of the English text.
