A
companion to the Eyewitness guides to Italy,
Florence and Tuscany, this guide includes advice
and maps to show where to taste the best wine,
olive oil, cured meat and other delicacies
in Tuscany.
Uncovering the best of Tuscany's food and
wine for visitors to the region, the guide
is divided into six geographical areas zones.
For each zone there is a brief description
of places of gastronomic interest: shops, wineries,
vineyards and estates, and resturants with
local character. The delights of the local
cuisine are highlighted in a selection of traditional
dishes from each area, and the resturants are
assessed for quality, atmosphere, traditional
dishes, good service and value for money. Here,
too, is a map and a Places of Interest section
for those venturing beyond food.
To bring visitors up to speed there is practical
information about the most important traditional
produce, such as wine, cheese and salami (cured
meats), all clearly illustrated. A Wild Produce
section, with its descriptions of truffles
and mushrooms, herbs and wild fruits will encourage
excursions into meadows and woods.
