This Iraq and the Heart
of the Middle East Map is two-sided
map and beautiful as well as informative.

Side one is a political map that
also shows hundreds of cities and
towns, roadways, railroads, and airports,
as well as the location of water holes,
oil fields, and oil pipelines. The
map also details which areas are sand,
swamp, salt desert, dry salt lake
or coral reef. Shaded relief dramatically
shows mountains and mountain ranges,
and elevations of key mountains and
passes. In addition to showing each
country’s boundaries, city inset
maps and brief historical and cultural
descriptions of Baghdad, Beirut, Damascus,
Jerusalem are included.
- Side two shows a stunning satellite
view of the entire region. Mountain
ranges are enhanced to show their dramatic
effect on the region. Fact boxes on
all 15 Middle East countries and the
West Bank and Gaza Strip show information
about each country’s population,
economy, oil reserves, military strength,
and include a brief historical and
cultural description of each country.
Also on this side of the
map are three thematic maps:
- Historical and current conflicts
- Religions and locations of concentrations
of population according to their
religious affiliation. This map also
shows Jewish immigration to Israel
from throughout the world
- Oil and Water, which shows both
energy and fresh water resources
for the region
Coverage:
The political map includes spans from
Southwest Turkey to Northeast Saudi
Arabia. Full coverage is shown for Iraq,
Kuwait, Israel (including the West Bank
and the Gaza Strip), Jordan, Lebanon,
Syria, and Cyprus. Partial coverage
is shown for Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia
and Egypt (Sinai Peninsula and the Nile
Valley).
