MOUSE RUG® - ORTELIUS MAP OF THE WORLD

The art of rug weaving dates back to prehistory and eventually occurred throughout the world. Continuing to the present day, weavers usually use the colors and patterns typical to their own particular community. Now the classic beauty of traditional handmade rug and textile patterns have been combined with the new, patented and high-tech Lextra fiber coating process to create the MouseRug mousepad that looks like a miniature rug.

MouseRugs are created by scanning real hand-woven rugs, digitizing and then outputting the art files used in the Lextra fiber coating process. In this way all the little irregularities and imperfections are reproduced to make the finished product look like a miniature version of a genuine hand made rug.

Besides being pretty, with brilliant color and rich texture, MouseRugs are practical. Over seven million little fibers work to keep lint and other foreign matter away from the working parts of the mouse. This rubber base material is permanently cast into the top layer instead of the more common process of using adhesive. Lextra surface of each MouseRug serves to:

  • create an incredibly comfortable and soft mousing surface,
  • work to continuously keep the mouse ball mechanism clean, and practically eliminate the need for maintenance.
  • help ground the mouse by drawing static electricity away.

Each rug is approximately 7.125" x 10.25" (including fringe) and makes a lovely and functional gift that would be appreciated by anyone who spends part of their day in front of a computer.

ORTELIUS MAP OF THE WORLD, 1570
This Map of the World was adapted from one by Abraham Ortelius of Antwerp, who was the first cartographer to show the full outlines of North and South America. Typus Orbis Terrarum is among the 4.6 million maps and related materials in the Geography and Map Division, Library of Congress.
