Sitting in a prolonged immobile position
for a long period of time, such as travelling on long
flights, driving long distances, standing or sitting
all day, causes venous blood flow to decrease and results
in swollen legs and feet. This sluggish blood flow could
result in the formation of a blood clot or Deep Vein
Thrombosis (DVT)*, a condition where a blood clot forms
in a vein leading to vital organs of the body. |
| TravelSox® is a high-quality compression
sock that helps to eliminate swelling by exerting
a gradual compression on the leg
to stimulate blood flow. Made with Coolmax® and with
more elasticity than predominantly nylon products, TravelSox® have
a dress sock look, will keep feet dry, and are comfortable
and easy to use. |

| *A clot that forms in a blood vessel is called a
thrombus. DVT is dangerous because all or part of the
thrombus can break loose and lodge in a narrow artery
in the lung, obstructing blood flow. A moving thrombus
is called an embus. Because blood in leg veins travel
to the heart and then to the lungs, emboli originating
in the leg veins will obstruct one or more arteries in
the lungs. In the majority of these cases, this condition
causes minor disorders such as thrombophlebitis. But
in some extreme cases, it can be fatal. |
| A number of factors can increase the chances of developing
a blood clot, such as recent surgery, taking estrogen
(the Pill), liver disease or other severe infections.
However, thrombosis can occur in healthy people who find
themselves in a prolonged immobile position especially
in restrained spaces. |
| DVT has been improperly referred to as "Economy
Class Syndrome," because of the recent media attention
concerning passengers who have died from DVT as a result
of travelling on long flights. DVT is not a case of sensationalism,
although it should not be underestimated either. Preventative
measures during lengthy travel include avoiding alcohol,
drinking plenty of fluids, exercising your lower limbs
and wearing compression socks such as TravelSox®. |
